Testers' Ratings

This pro rider backcountry deck will simply rip up the terrain. A great speed freak, it remains compact underfoot. The slightly soft tail results in a powerful ollie.

This year Salomon completes its backcountry line with this pro model created for Wolle Nyvelt and Taka Haru Nakai. This HPS is interesting as it’s a new type of Salomon, with a focus on speed despite being compact. Designed in line with powerful backcountry boards, it gives far more progressive turn entries, making it both enjoyable and comfortable. In unpredictable snow, the nose absolutely rips through the terrain. In freestyle manoeuvres, it’s playful and full of rebound. The tail is incredibly responsive, giving great support when you want to ollie. On the corduroy, rides are as solid as they would be with an all-mountain, with a bit less variety though as the focus is on power. There’s enough stability and support to engage with confidence, but the board is also responsive in short turns and fast edge-to-edge. With the more or less forgiving freestyle-like tips, Salomon offers a one-quiver deck that’s powerful without being elitist, which is why we gave it an Ace. It’s perfect for anyone who likes to jump and weave their way across the mountain.
